Congratulations

…To Katie Field and Mum Jean Field who raised £2000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer after the Summer Ball held at Beales Hotel, with assistance and sponsorship from the hotel. The raffle was a great success with the star prize being a four-course dinner with selected wines cooked and served in the winners home by Callum Kennedy and the chef – the winning bid was an incredible £600 and the winner lives in Anglesey!! Following PR by Jane Manners in the local papers, a band stepped forward to volunteer to play for the evening at no cost [pic right].

…To Stephen SimsTony Balaam, and Sally Balaam, all who have completed five years service at WLP. Tony and Stephen are seen here with Andrew and Tony receiving their certificates [pic far right].

Local Food

Our efforts to source more local food progress well. Bridget Borlase, seen here entertaining some of the WLP team at her farm at Sacombe Hill, is now providing our beef, lamb, mince, venison. Her prize winning herd of Simmental pedigree cows provide the backbone of the business. It is a joy to be able to source the best quality produce from within the county of Hertfordshire [pics right].
Our next developments will now concentrate on the precise provenance of our fish, local fruit and vegetables, local free range chickens and Hertfordshire goats cheese.

Local Beverage

We have sourced St Albans Ale, Hertford Castle Ale, Broxbourne Vineyard white, red and sparkling wines, and Warden Abbey wine from Bedfordshire to add to the wonderful local food on our menus. Sadly Hadham water has gone out of business and there is no local replacement for the huge quantities of still and sparkling water that we sourced locally before.

Website

www.bealeshotels.co.uk continues to grow week by week. The Group part of the site is 24 MB in size, the WLP area 47.2 MB, the BH area 44.3 MB, and the Staff area a whopping 70 MB, a total of 185.5 MB. Over 9000 people have visited the site during August, traditionally one of the quietest months. New pages include WLP Bedrooms, WLP Wine List, Group Corporate and Management pages and the updated Company handbook in the Staff area.

Hundreds more photos have been added to the website galleries, including these wonderful images of the Beale arboretum by Michael Boys [pics right].

The Estates team

…have been busy this summer – at WLP the main changes have been to the Terrace Bar with brand new furniture, to the exterior with the painting of the John Evelyn elevation [pic above right] while at BH the wonderful terrace is now complete, and impressive improvements to the kitchen and back of house areas have been carried out [pic left].

And finally…

…the Beales Hotel development of a third floor has moved nearer with the appointment of the key people who will be running the project. By this time in a year, we should have a further 19 bedrooms at the hotel, making 72 rooms in total as well as a dedicated leisure area with gym, sauna, jacuzzi etc. Of these new rooms, three will be beautiful suites, four will be interconnecting and all the new and the existing rooms will be fitted with air conditioning.
