Congratulations
to WLP ‘Simply the Best’ joint winners for April – Paul Baynes & Andrew Swales. Well done for keeping the grounds in award-winning condition throughout all weathers.
Estates news
…This month lots of painting and decorating has been done throughout the company including the dozens of terrace tables and chairs at both hotels, the start of the refurbishment of room 29 at West Lodge Park, and outside painting in Chestnut Lodge and the bar terrace, taking advantage of the good weather.
…In addition Errol, our joiner, has been busy upgrading the bedroom furniture at Beales Hotel in several bedrooms.
Garden news!
…The new Magnolia bed at West Lodge Park is now fully planted out and looks superb – ready for the garden open day on the 17th May (2-5pm) and for some prestigious visits we are hosting this summer from international experts in the arboricultural world.
…The recent good weather together with night time rain has left the gardens at WLP looking the best they have ever been with lush lawns, vigorous growth on trees and shrubs and spring flowers in full bloom
…The bees have settled in well at WLP, with the first crop of honey expected some time towards the end of May. This will be a historic first for the hotel – our own honey which will be available on the breakfast buffets of the hotels and available to buy at reception and online.
Training and development news
…Lots of activities for the wonderful teams at both hotels this month including visits to some of our key local food suppliers, training on Visual one at Beales hotel, rational training in Essex for our chefs, horse riding trip out for WLP staff and the first of the season’s boat trips which are open to all staff in the company.
…In addition this is the time of year when we launch our performance review programme – a chance for everyone at Beales Hotels to spend some time talking about their future and the past year.
Food and beverage news
…New spring menus are out at both hotels as well as lounge and roof service menus.
…Special events continue with the forthcoming cello and piano recital at West Lodge Park on the 15th May, and for the Simcha showcase at Beales Hotel on the 7th June.
And finally…
great news with the successful planning application for a new conservatory at WLP. Although sales do not permit this to be built this year, we are hopeful of seeing this great new addition to the hotel before long, giving another 24 covers to our bar area.
