Farewell to

Chris Kyriacou, who retires from the Cedar Restaurant at West Lodge Park after 17 years. Chris, pictured with his wife Mariana, is retiring to Southend. In his valedictory speech, Andrew Beale praised Chris for his professionalism, his calm, his gentleness and most importantly for the unique way he had with guests dining at WLP. At his farewell party, there were two former chairmen represented by Trevor Beale and Grevile Bridge. Chris had also looked after four generations of Beales during his time at WLP, and three of those generations were present to see him off!

Thanks to…

…Peter Dyer for a wonderful shot of the senior staff at WLP showing off the wonderful building and the wonderful staff in equal measure!

…Sue Dixon for organising the Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s annual visit to WLP for the open air theatre performance on the lawns – some 250 people enjoyed the play in idyllic conditions.

Callum Kennedy and his team for organising a very successful group staff party in the stunning new Buckland Suite. A great time was had by all and there were a few sore heads the next morning!

Welcome to

Rowena Ragaven (Safiya Health and Beauty), Julie Day (BH C&B)

Congratulations to

Dave Seward, Omar Meziane and the BB team for an 80% Nick Tilley score following a revisit.

In Memoriam

shocking news that Tim Hadcock-Mackay, founder of Grand Heritage and Distinguished Hotels and a long term friend of Beales Hotels, has committed suicide. One could not imagine a more passionate and enthusiastic person than Tim. I am devastated by the news.

includes our entry into the Autumn Daily and Sunday Telegraph campaign, offering 33% discount on double/twin rooms at BH and WLP and 50% discount at BB

And finally…

the heatwave of July may now be behind us but the extreme conditions have led us to evaluate the possibility of Aircon for the kitchen at WLP, the bedrooms at BH, Safiya Health and Beauty rooms at WLP, and other areas in the company. Aircon is very expensive to install properly, but if the end result is better conditions for staff and guests then it will be worth it, although it clashes with our green credentials to reduce, not increase, power consumption. My sincere thanks go to all those working in extreme heat over the past month.
Meanwhile, the grounds at WLP have taken on an autumnal feel with many trees losing their leaves and the parched grass has very little green left in it but we have taken a decision to not water the grounds this year.
