The Beale family has managed West Lodge Park in North London since 1945, making it the highest-rated four-star hotel in the area. Originally part of Enfield Chase, a royal hunting ground from the 1400s, the lodge was rebuilt in 1838 and converted into a private hotel in 1924.
Beale Arboretum, established in 1963 stands as a testament to their dedication, housing the Plant Heritage National collections of Hornbeams (Carpinus betulus cv), Swamp Cypress (Taxodium distichum), and Indian Bean Tree (Catalpa). With more than 60 years of meticulous curation, the collection has grown to include 15 UK and regional champions as recognised by the Tree Register. In total, the arboretum boasts over 800 species of trees from around the world, with a remarkable total of over 4,500 trees.
